Tryout Information

Fusion Fastpitch conducts tryouts for 8UA, 8UB1, 10U, 12U, 14U and 18U levels to place players on the appropriate traveling team.

Players electing to play 6U and 8UB levels do not participate in tryouts.

Tryouts will this held in the spring for all age groups.

Fusion Fastpitch seeks to conduct effective and fair tryouts, establishing procedures which ensure results in the best interest of both players and the program.

Players are rated in drills that demonstrate hitting, fielding and throwing skills. External evaluators are used to determine the scores.

2025 Tryouts

Date: Sunday, March 9th

Time: 9:00am-5:00pm
*Time breakdown for levels will be released late February*
**Pitching and Catching Tryouts will take place the same day either before or after their scheduled tryouts**

Location: Dundas Dome (901 Cannon Road, Dundas, MN 55019)

(Groups will be formed with official times, but these are the times in which each Age Level will take part.)

12U: (Player Schedule)
8:45am-9:45am or 9:45-10:30am- Player
9:45am-11:00am- Pitchers and Catchers

16U and 18U: (Player Schedule)
10:30am-12:00pm- Player
12:30-1:15p- Pitchers and Catchers

14U: (Player Schedule)

2:15pm - 3:00pm- Pitchers and Catchers

8U A and B1: (Player Schedule)

Flexx Softball

This year Fusion is outsourcing our tryouts to Flexx Softball. Flexx has a knowledgeable staff with extensive experience in training and evaluating softball players. They utilize cutting-edge equipment, including laser cells for measuring running speed, radar guns for determining exit velocity and pitching/throwing speeds, and a standard stopwatch for evaluating catchers' pop time. Additionally, every player evaluated will get a "Player Locker" where the results of running speed, exit velocity, and throwing speed from every year of tryouts are stored. A players profile can also store your future goals, community service, videos and academic achievements. We are excited to work with Flexx on our tryouts this year and wish everyone the best on this day.

Tryout Stations

Hitting

Each player will be given 7-10 pitches to swing and 3-4 pitches to bunt.

8U A & B1 will be given pitches using a BlueFlame pitching machine. Speed will be approx. 33-35 MPH

10U and Up will be given pitches from a JUGS pitching machine.
10U - 35-38MPH, 12U - 38-42MPH, 14U - 45-50MPH, 16/18U - 50-55MPH

Infield

Players will line up at the Shortstop position. Player will receive 6 ground balls, 2 to the right, 2 to the left, and 2 at them to rush. Each ground ball will be thrown to First base.

Outfield

Players will receive 5 fly balls. There will be 4 cones that are spread out in a square. The player will start in the middle and then proceed to each cone, receiving the fly balls while starting in the different spots. After making the catch, they will throw the ball in to the cutoff person.

Running

Player will be asked to run a 20 Meter Dash.

Arm Strength

Player will be asked to throw a softball from a designated spot into a net. We will use a radar gun to track the velocity of the throw.

Pitching

10U Pitchers will get between 5-7 fastballs and will have spots to hit.

12U and Up will get 12 fastballs - 3 at each corner. Then if the pitcher throws any additional pitches, they will get 3-4 of each pitch.

Pitchers will have ample time to warmup before their turn to pitch and they will be pitching to one of our volunteers.

Catching

Catchers will get 3-5 pitches that look at framing/receiving. They’ll get 3-5 pitches in the dirt to evaluate their blocking.
Throwing: Pop up and throw down to second and then two throws to first simulating a bunt and a passed ball.

For catching evals we will have an experienced pitcher or BlueFlame pitching to the catcher.
