Tryout Information

Fusion Fastpitch conducts tryouts for 8UA, 8UB1, 10U, 12U, 14U and 18U levels to place players on the appropriate traveling team.

Players electing to play 6U and 8UB/C levels do not participate in tryouts.

Tryouts will this held in the spring for all age groups.

Fusion Fastpitch seeks to conduct effective and fair tryouts, establishing procedures which ensure results in the best interest of both players and the program.

Players are rated in drills that demonstrate hitting, fielding and throwing skills. External evaluators are used to determine the scores.

Tryout Stations

Hitting

Front toss.
8-10 full swing attempts plus 5 bunt attempts
- - Additional reps will be included if player wants to be evaluated on slap and/or drag bunt
Evaluated on: Form, exit velocity, ball tracking, and contact.

Infield

8-10 reps
Players will be rotated through different spots in the infield
- - 14/18U will be asked to go to their primary/secondary position
Evaluated on: Form, footwork, glove work, throws

Outfield

8-10 reps
Will include fielding grounders as outfielder
Throws will include hitting cut-off and hitting a base.
Evaluated on: Form, footwork, glove work, throws

General Athleticism

Timed Shuttle Run
Base running
Timed sit ups

Pitching

20-25 pitches plus additional pitches for each additional pitch they throw
- - 12/14/18U will be asked to hit spots
Evaluated on velocity including difference in FB v Change (older age groups), accuracy and form

Catching

20 pitches - at random, some will be in the dirt
5 throws to 2nd
2 throws to corner base
Evaluated on receiving/framing, blocking, pop-up times, throw accuracy
