Fusion Fastpitch includes teams that compete at various competitive levels at five age groups. The Fusion Fastpitch teams complete in league games, tournaments and post season play. The tournaments (including Nationals) are generally held within the state of Minnesota.
Minnesota Softball provides divisions at five age groups. Those divisions are 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U and 18U. The age of the player on August 31st, 2025 is their playing age for the season. For example, player who is 10 years old on August 31st would play at the 10U level in the following Spring/Summer Season. A player who is 11 or 12 years old on August 31st would play at the 12U level in the Spring/Summer Season. Minnesota Softball and USA Softball rules do not allow a player to "play down" to a younger age group for any reason. Players should play in the division that is their playing age. The Age Calculator on MNSoftball.com can help verify the age level and division your player is eligible for.

In MNSoftball, each age group is divided into 3 skill levels with A being the higher skilled players, B being in the middle and the C-level at the bottom. For our 8U program at Fusion, we have a top team at the A-level and the rest of our teams will play at the B-level. We have added a B1 team that will participate in more tournaments and practices than the traditional B teams.
If your player is interested in playing on the 8U A team, she must attend tryouts on March 15 at the Dundas Dome. Approximately 11-12 players will be placed on this team based on their tryout scores. This team will play other A-level teams for their league games and participate in 5 weekend tournaments throughout the season. This team will practice twice a week and have a league game once a week on Wednesdays. If your player does not make the A team, they will be placed on a B1 team, assuming we have enough players to make a team. If we are unable to create a B1 team, you will be refunded $125.
We are also offering an 8U B1 team option. This team will play other B-level teams during their league games and participate in 5 weekend tournaments throughout the season. This team will practice twice a week and have a league game once a week on Wednesdays. If your player is interested in this team, she must be evaluated during tryouts on March 15 at the Dundas Dome. This team will be created based on evaluation scores, as long as there are enough players interested to create a full team. If your player is not placed on the B1 team, she will be placed on a traditional B team. If we are unable to create a B1 team, you will be refunded $125 and placed on a traditional 8U team.
All other traditional 8U players are not required to attend tryouts. These 8U teams will play B/C-level teams and participate in two weekend tournaments (May 16 at Rally in the Valley and the State Tournament June 27-28.) These teams will practice once a week and have league games on Wednesdays. Teams are created based on previous Fusion teams, a friend request and elementary schools.
Any questions about 8U can be sent to our 8U Coordinator Anne Hartman at AHartman@AVFusion.org.
Our two 16U elite teams were formed August 2025 and began playing together last fall. Players on these teams should register as an 18U player for registration purposes.
Fusion elite teams will only compete in tournaments and not in the MNSoftball league. There may be additional coaching and/or tournament expenses required for players on these teams. See your coach for details.
Any questions about the 16U elite teams should be sent to Mike Simonson at director@AVFusion.org.
8U, 10U & 12U Player tryouts will be held on March 15, 2026 at the Dundas Dome.
14U & 18U Player tryouts will be held on March 14, 2026 at the Mash Training Facility.
The Fusion tryout evaluations assess players across hitting, fielding, general athleticism, and catcher/pitcher-specific skills. Hitting, including bunting, will focus on form, contact, and ball tracking, with optional slapping/drag bunt reps. Infielders and outfielders will field live balls and make game-like throws. The players will also be evaluated through timed running, base running technique, and timed sit-ups. Catchers are evaluated on receiving, blocking, and throwing performance, including pop-up times and accuracy. Pitchers will be evaluated on accuracy, velocity and mechanics.
All 10U, 12U, 14U and 18U players are expected to attend tryouts. If you cannot make it, please email director@AVFusion.org
Players interested in playing on the 8UA or 8UB1 teams are required to attend tryouts. Those participating on an 8UC Team will have their team formed based on past Fusion Teams, common elementary schools and player friend requests.
More information about tryouts can be found on our Tryout Information Page.
Tentative Tryout Times: Group times will be provided in the coming weeks.
